Due to a widespread power outage in Spain, operations at sorting and distribution centres as well as post offices had been halted since 12:30 p.m. on April 28th. IT infrastructure is also affected due to the power outage, and service disruptions are expected.

Transportation infrastructure has also been affected, including operations at airports and public transport services, including trains and metro lines. There had also been major traffic jams at some points on the road network.

Regarding communications and data networks, the power outage has also affected them, and there is no internet or mobile access in certain areas.

It is expected that normal operations will resume across the entire network on 30 April.

A massive power cut has hit large parts of Spain and Portugal.

The head of Spain’s electricity network said earlier that restoring power could take between six and 10 hours. No further information is available at this time.

Heavy rainfall causes flooding in western parts of Andalusia: Local media sources reported on April 4 that heavy rains caused by Storm Nuria triggered flooding and related disruptions in several areas of western Andalusia, Spain.

Flooding affected parts of Seville, Coria del Río, Cádiz, and several towns in Huelva. Heavy rains impacted road and rail transport and thus, disruptions to businesses and logistics are expected to persist.

Union threatens with 6-day strike at Barcelona International Airport: Media sources reported that the UGT union has threatened to launch a 6-day strike against aircraft handling company, Groundforce BCN, at Barcelona International Airport in Spain over working conditions. Negotiations between the company and the union are scheduled for March 18. If no agreement is reached, the strikes are expected to take place on March 21, 23, 28 and 30 and April 4 and 6. Disruptions to flight operations are to be expected if the strike materializes.

Storm Jana causes flooding in parts of Andalucia :Media sources reported that heavy rainfall due to Storm Jana has caused flooding in parts of Analucia, Spain. Authorities activated a Special Emergency Plan due to heavy flooding, landslides, and fallen trees on roads. The most affected areas are Cadiz, Huelva, Malaga, Seville, Granada, Almeria, and Cordoba. Business and logistic disruptions are likely as authorities have forecasted that Storm Jana will impact nearby provinces as well.
