The designated operator of Spain, S.E. Correos y Telégrafos S.A, S.M.E (Correos) wishes to inform the designated operators of other Union member countries that, in the light of the new import requirements introduced by the US executive order dated 30 July 2025, it is temporarily suspending acceptance of open or closed transit items containing goods destined for the United States of America. This measure will take effect on 20 August 2025, in accordance with article 17-013 of the Convention Regulations. Any transit or misrouted items containing goods destined for the United States and arriving at Correos’ international mail processing centres will be returned to origin.

The designated operator of Spain, Sociedad Estatal Correos y Telégrafos S.A, S.M.E. (Correos) asks us to inform Union member countries and their designated operators of a wildfire outbreak in certain regions of Spain. Several fires are currently active in the following regions and postcode areas of Spain: Cáceres (10XXX), Cádiz (11XXX), Huelva (21XXX), León (24XXX), Ourense (32XXX), Asturias (33XXX), Palencia (34XXX) and Zamora (49XXX). Owing to these fires and resulting roadblocks, disruptions and delays may be experienced in the delivery and collection of mail products in some municipalities of the above postcode areas, especially in small or remote municipalities. Mail products in affected areas will be stored until the situation is back to normal and delivery services can be resumed. This process may also be implemented in other areas potentially affected by fires in the coming days.

The designated operator of Cabo Verde, Correios de Cabo Verde, wishes to inform the designated operators of other Union member countries that, following the storm and heavy rains that hit São Vicente Island on 11 August 2025 in the early hours of the morning, the post offices in São Vicente will be temporarily closed. The processing and delivery of all mail (letters, parcels and EMS) will be affected.

Heavy rainfall causes flooding and transport disruptions : Media sources on July 12 reported that heavy rainfall triggered flash flooding, transport disruptions, and road closures in parts of Catalonia, Spain, while hailstorms and strong winds affected parts of Valencia. Llocalized flooding reportedly continues to impact affected areas.

Postal workers announce strikes: Media sources reported on May 21 that workers from S.E. Correos y Telégrafos S.A. are set to begin a series of strikes starting on May 28, led by the CGT union, eventually culminating in a nationwide strike and demonstration in Madrid on June 27. The strikes, prompted by deteriorating working conditions and proposed cuts that could eliminate 8,000 to 10,000 jobs, are expected to disrupt postal services across Spain.

Truck drivers call indefinite strike in Cantabria : Media sources report that the Cantabrian Transport Workers’ Union (SCAT) has called an indefinite strike in the Cantabrian region of Spain starting May 26, to be observed on Mondays and Tuesdays each week, affecting the road freight transport sector due to disputes over wage increases and working conditions.
