UK Bank Holiday – Monday 19th September 2022

Dear Customers,

As announced by King Charles III, Monday 19th September 2022 is a National Bank Holiday for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s State Funeral and to mark the last day of national mourning.

Like many of our suppliers, UKP Worldwide will be joining them and closing for the day to allow our colleagues to pay their respects. We will be back open as usual from Tuesday 20th September.

We do expect to experience slight delays as a result of the suspension of services, however, we hope these will be kept to a minimum. Should you have any concerns about your forthcoming campaigns, or parcel deliveries, please do not hesitate to contact our Client Services team at ukpclientservices@ukpworldwide.com.

Many thanks,

Guy Cliffe & Client Services

Could BIRDS benefit your business?

BIRDS (Bulk Import Reduced Data Set) or Bulk Clearance as it is also known allows traders to declare two or more low-value consignments in a single declaration when importing goods to the UK. It is mostly used for eCommerce shipments.

BIRDS doesn’t place a limit on the number of items that can be cleared in one declaration. Instead, importers can clear unlimited items up to the value of £135 per consignee, without having to pay duty on the goods.  This can save eCommerce traders thousands of pounds in duty.

BIRDS replaced LVBI (Low-Value Bulking of Import) and effectively removed the previous distinction between low-value (less than £15) and medium value (less than £135). Low-value now covers any items with a value less than £135.

To take advantage of BIRDS clearance you must physically bring your goods to our warehouse as part of the customs clearance process.

Most importers don’t have the capacity to regularly clear thousands of eCommerce parcels, which is where UKPW can step in. We have many customs authorisations including BIRDS, making us one of only a few companies in the UK to be fully BIRDS authorised and AEO accredited. All consignments are customs cleared through our ETSF in the Aylesbury warehouse.

Most traders have a mixture of low and high-value goods, so by manifesting your low and high-value items separately you can customs clear your goods correctly and pay the correct amount of duties and taxes.

We offer a speedy turnaround from arrival, through customs clearance to actual dispatch to the final mile carriers.

What really separates UKPW from just another customs agent is our managed returns solutions combined with seamless duty drawback when goods are returned.

Only 7 weeks to move across to the Customs Declaration Service (CDS)

Dear Customer,

This communication is relevant to all our customs clearance customers. Please pass this information on to any Traders you may represent.

Only 7 weeks to move across to the Customs Declaration Service (CDS)

The last day we will be able to make import declarations on the Customs Handling of Import and Export Freight (CHIEF) system is 30th September 2022, meaning there is less than 2 months to go. To continue trading, from 1st October 2022 we will need to make your import declarations on the Customs Declaration Service (CDS). The last day for making export declarations on CHIEF will be 31st March 2023, when CHIEF will close.

HMRC have lots of online support available to help you understand the move to CDS, including:

  • Step-by-step checklists that explain how to move across
  • A new series of short videos on YouTube that explain how to complete the following steps in more detail:
    • How to subscribe to CDS
    • How to use your customs financial accounts on CDS
    • How to set up standing authority on CDS
    • How to set up a Direct Debit instruction on CDS
    • How to use the secure file upload service on CDS

Register and get access to the Customs Declarations Service on GOV.UK.

REX Numbers

UKP Worldwide (UKPW) require all Traders who are claiming preferential status on EU origin goods to provide their REX number. It would seem that HMRC have relented and confirmed that the REX code should be that of the Exporter rather than the supplier of aid goods. However, UKPW still have a responsibility to audit this and request evidence to support any claims for preference, so please be sure that you are able to provide any evidence required to substantiate any claims for any audits.

In addition, we require all Traders to complete a new form to substantiate this claim. Your UKPW Account Manager will provide the template shortly.  Visit here for further information and how to apply for a REX number.

If you have any questions or need further assistance, please contact our Client Services team at ukpclientservices@ukpworldwide.com.

Changes to Safety and Security Declarations Announced

Dear Customer,

This communication is relevant to all our customs clearance customers and is being sent as a result of a recent Government announcement.

Changes to Safety and Security Declarations Announced

The Government has announced a raft of customs easements to support industry and improve flow at UK borders. Traders, haliers and carriers are set to benefit from four Safety and Security (S&S) facilitations, which will come into force from 1st July 2022 for the EU and the rest of the world.

The facilitations are as follows:

  • Marking S&S Movement Reference Numbers (MRN’s) optional in the Goods Vehicle Movement Service (GVMS) for both imports and exports
  • Removal of S&S requirements for outbound inter-port transhipments (when moved under transit and a single transport contract)
  • Removal of S&S requirements on Merchandise in Baggage for both imports and exports
  • As part of the package of easements, empty units exported under a transport contract will no longer be required to complete S&S declarations

Removing the need for S&S declarations (also known as Exit Summary or EXS declarations) will reduce the burden on hauliers and carriers, and allow empty containers, pallets and vehicles to move more quickly and efficiently.

Also from the 1st July 2022, carriers can complete inputs into the GVMS without entering any S&S declaration reference numbers. Including the S&S declaration reference number has previously been encouraged, and this remains an option, however, users can now complete the form without it if they choose to.

If you have any questions or need further assistance, please contact our Client Services team at ukpclientservices@ukpworldwide.com.
