Heavy rainfall causes flooding in Uttar Pradesh : Media sources reported that heavy rainfall caused flooding in several parts of Uttar Pradesh, India, displacing over 84,000 people and damaging more than 4,000 hectares of land on August 2. Affected regions include Kanpur Nagar, Lakhimpur Kheri, Agra, Auraiya, Chitrakoot, Ballia, Banda, Ghazipur, Mirzapur, Prayagraj, Varanasi, Chandauli, Jalaun, Kanpur Dehat, Hamirpur, Etawah, and Fatehpur. Floodwater damaged roadways, leading to traffic and logistics congestion. Lingering disruptions are likely until weather conditions improve.

The designated operator of Switzerland, Swiss Post, asks us to inform other countries and their designated operators that they are about to switch the transmission of EMSEVT events from its bespoken IT system to UPU IPS starting from 4. August 2025. The procedure is defined in such a way that one event after the other is switched over, starting with the events that are less relevant for delivery time measurements and ending with the “Start the Clock” and “Stop the Clock” events. During the transition phase, it will be unavoidable for certain events to be sent twice, firstly by the Swiss Post bespoken IT system and secondly by UPU IPS.

Air Traffic Control outage causes flight disruptions across airports: Media sources on July 30 report that a major air traffic control outage at Sanwick caused significant flight disruptions across airports in the United Kingdom on the same day. The affected airports include London Heathrow Airport (IATA: LHR), where 308 flights were delayed and 32 were cancelled on July 30, Edinburgh Airport (IATA: EDI), Stansted Airport (IATS: MAG), and Manchester Airport (IATA: MAN). Authorities restored the system within 20 minutes of the outage, and departures resumed at the affected airports. Expect flight delays due to the incumbent backlog.

Heavy rainfall causes flooding in Taichung City and Nantou County: Media sources reported on July 30 that heavy rainfall has caused flash flooding in parts of Taichung City and Nantou County, Taiwan, on the morning of the same day. According to reports, in Taichung City, roads such as Liberty Road in Central District and Zhongyong Road in Nantun District were waterlogged. In Nantou County, flooding has been reported in Zhushan Township, Xinyi Township, and Nantou City. Several power outages have also been recorded in Zhushan Township. Business and logistics disruptions are to be anticipated until floodwaters recede.

Magnitude 8.7 earthquake triggers tsunami in Kamchatka: Media sources report that a magnitude 8.7 earthquake has occurred offshore 126 kilometers east-southeast of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, Kamchatka Krai, Russian Federation at 11:24 local time on July 30. The depth of the epicenter is 18.2 km. Tsunami waves of over 4 meters in height were recorded in parts of Kamchatka, prompting evacuations and damaging buildings. Preliminary assessments have indicated no injuries at the time of writing, but an evacuation order has been issued for the town of Severo-Kurilsk due to the tsunami threat. The earthquake has further triggered tsunami warnings and evacuation orders along the Pacific coast of Japan, with authorities warning of tsunami waves of up to 3 meters. A tsunami advisory has also been issued by the US Tsunami Warning System for coasts of Russia, Japan and Hawaii. Disruptions to businesses are likely and aftershocks are to be anticipated.
