Japan Post has advised that they have temporarily suspended the acceptance of international mail until further notice. More information is available here: https://www.post.japanpost.jp/int/information/2020/0401_02_en.html
Japan Post has advised that there are serious delays in the handling of outbound mail due to continuing rising volumes. This, coupled with the cancellation of flights between Japan and China, is causing congestion at sorting centres and other facilities. Japan Post is taking active steps to decrease backlogs as soon as possible. However, as more and more airlines cancel their flights to China, delays are expected to continue.
Japan Post has advised that an airport is scheduled to close due to a Typhoon, which is scheduled to hit the east of Japan on 12th October.
Although the airport will resume operations on 13th October. Japan Post is making every effort to ensure the delivery and dispatch of international mail items by using other international mail hubs.
However, delivery delays are likely during the Typhoon period.
Japan Post has advised that the national holiday from 27th April to 6th May, should not impact inbound and outbound mail operations. However, please note that most of the employees in the head office and local branch offices will not work during this period.
Japan Post thanks everyone for their understanding.
